Redesigning TheraNest’s Global Navigation

Therapy Brands focuses on practice management software for therapists, primarily through their product TheraNest, which offers features like billing, scheduling, reminders, and client portals. The company aims to modernize it with a React-based front end to enhance user experience, boost trial-to-paid conversions, and solidify TheraNest as a key platform for its products.


The Ask

Redesign TheraNest’s Global Navigation. Therapy Brands needed a responsive, intuitive, and scalable solution for individuals and group practices, ensuring current users could quickly adapt to the updated experience.

My Role

I was the design lead / strategist on this engagement, overseeing a team of 2 designers and 1 researcher. I worked closely with the team during design reviews and ensured the quality and direction of the deliveries.

To ensure the redesigned Global Navigation addressed both business goals and user needs, the team leveraged a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods throughout discovery and validation.

1. Discovery

We conducted 6 stakeholder and 8 user interviews to uncover workflows, pain points, behavioral patterns, and unmet needs across both individual practitioners and group practices. These conversations provided deeper contextual understanding around how users navigated the platform and where friction existed in the current experience.

2. Comparative Analysis

We evaluated six competitor platforms to identify navigation patterns, feature prioritization trends, and opportunities for differentiation. This comparative analysis helped inform scalable navigation recommendations aligned with industry expectations and evolving user behaviors.

3. Information Architecture Validation

Through card sorting exercises and prioritization activities, the team validated navigation labels, grouping logic, and content hierarchy. Insights gathered from these studies informed a more intuitive information architecture and improved findability across the platform.

4. Design Execution

We created an essential style guide with cohesive components to ensure device consistency in the final applied designs. The team delivered key screens showcasing the recommended aesthetic and functionality, ensuring responsiveness and scalability.

5. Research Synthesis

Research findings were synthesized into data-informed personas, user flows, and navigation recommendations that aligned business priorities with user goals. These artifacts helped guide design decisions throughout wireframing, prototyping, and iterative validation.

6. Design Handoff

The team provided developers with a comprehensive design guide featuring reusable components and patterns to maintain consistency.
